Assistant Controller – Office of Finance

SALARY: $110,000 – $120,000 per year

General Description

The Assistant Controller has responsibility for supporting the Controller on all aspects of financial reporting.  Principal responsibilities will include preparing financial reports and working with external auditors and the internal accounting staff.  Responsibilities will include overseeing the preparation of financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).  Focus will also include maximizing use of financial systems, improving reporting processes and ensuring a sound control environment as a basis for the financial statements.  The financial statements will include the insurance fund, medical plan, Catholic Cemeteries, Pension Plans and Retired Priest Fund as well as assisting with the Chancery financials. Responsibilities will include acting as a liaison with the Archdiocesan auditors (internal and external) as well as other Departments.

Qualifications/Skills

  • Solid knowledge of GAAP
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Experience working on external audits
  • Strong technical and time management skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics and JET reporting is a plus
  • Ability to prioritize, schedule and complete multiple assignments
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Proficient in Microsoft (Outlook, Excel and Word)
  • Proficient in the use of Adobe
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
  • Ability to professionally challenge existing processes with a view toward improving the quality, timeliness and efficiency of the accounting and finance functions

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, and a CPA
  • Extensive experience in progressively responsible positions in accounting, financial management, budgeting and internal controls
  • Five years of managerial level experience in accounting or finance, including Not for Profit industry experience and public accounting
