General Description
The Music Director at St. Mary’s must hold a minimum of a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music, preferably with a concentration in organ performance. The music director will be responsible for the coordination of the music ministry at St. Mary’s. He/she will report directly to the pastor and will work in consultation with the staff members and volunteers involved in the liturgical life of the parish. The music director must have a working knowledge of the various documents of the Catholic Church related to liturgy and liturgical music. The music director will also be expected to remain current regarding recently composed liturgical music and also to attend workshops related to their ministry as this is further explained in their contract. This position is considered a full-time position as 35 hours per week on site as detailed below.
Qualifications/Skills
- The ability to play organ and other keyboard instruments
- The ability to work collaboratively with Parish Staff and parish organizations
- Ability to work musically within a multi-cultural parish
- Willingness to abide by and integrate into the music ministry the spirit of Church documents as they articulate what is appropriate for parish liturgical music, particularly participation by the assembly.
Education and/or Experience
- Minimum of a Bachelor of Arts Degree in music or related discipline
- Experience in the Catholic liturgical experience and setting
- A minimum of 3 years experience in Catholic music ministry.
- Willingness to abide by and integrate into the music ministry the spirit of Church documents as they articulate what is appropriate for parish liturgical music, particularly participation by the assembly.
