Director of Music Ministry | Most Blessed Sacrament Church, Franklin Lakes

General Description

The Director of Music Ministry is an active member of the parish team, responsible for the effective design, facilitation, and implementation of the parish liturgical music program in a manner that promotes “the full, conscious, and active participation,” called for by the very nature of the liturgical rites in the Roman Catholic tradition. In collaboration with the Pastor, staff members, and parishioners, the Director is charged with integrating music ministry into the overall parish mission. The employee must demonstrate a personal witness to and an exemplification of Catholic principles through his/her words and actions in both professional and private life. The employee must be familiar with and adhere to the Archdiocese of Newark’s Policies on Professional and Ministerial Conduct/Code of Ethics and possess a knowledge of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

Education and/or Experience

• Experience in parish/Pastoral work or related field is desired
• Experience as a choir conductor; organist; pianist
• A degree in music or music education; specialized training and credentials in liturgical music and organ performance preferred
• A knowledge of the Roman Catholic liturgy including Church documents and texts: e.g. The General Instruction of the Roman Missal (GIRM); Musicam Sacram: Instruction on Music in the Liturgy (1967); and Sing to the Lord: Music in Divine Worship (2007)
• An understanding of the books of the Church used in the Roman Catholic liturgy: e.g. the Lectionary and the Roman Missal
