Director of Music Ministries, Full Time

General Description

The Director of Music Ministries is a professional musician who is rooted in an understanding and appreciation of the Roman Catholic Faith and its Liturgy.  The Director is responsible for planning, coordination, and execution of music within many parish celebrations and events. The Director knows and values the mission of the Church to Evangelize all peoples. The Director is passionate about the Vision and Mission of the parish of Notre Dame of Mt. Carmel Church.


  • Direct all parish music programs
  • Work in collaboration with the staff and ministry leadership
  • Provide guidance and leadership in music implementation that serves the mission of the parish
  • Prepare and manage the Music Ministry budget
  • Develop, lead, and schedule a team of cantors to assist in liturgical celebrations
  • Develop, lead, support, and schedule supplemental musicians as needed
  • Develop and support all parish choirs
  • Encourage, develop, and support the congregational voices of God’s people to sing at all liturgies
  • Maintain a presence in the parish in collaboration with parish staff
  • Prepare and produce all electronic and print worship aides for parish liturgies
  • Arrange music or find suitable arrangements as necessitated by parish choirs and ensembles
  • Maintain and augment the parish music library
  • Ensure that all licenses and copyright permissions are available and current
  • Oversee maintenance of the parish sound system and sound equipment
  • Complete or update Virtus and safety training for working with children
  • Any other related responsibilities as designated by the pastor


  • Practicing Catholic
  • Accomplished, organist/pianist
  • Ability to arrange/transcribe music for supplemental musicians  
  • A self-starter, eager to engage in the mission of the parish
  • Committed to team building

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and time management abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills 
  • Values accountability 


  • Bachelors’ degree (or higher) in music preferred
  • Understanding of Catholic liturgy
  • Prior experience as a liturgical musician preferred


  • The Director of Music is accountable to the Pastor


  • The Director of Music Ministries is a full-time position
  • Salaried position (35 hours per week) with benefits
  • Compensation is commensurate with the candidate’s education and experience
