Sacramental Records

Existing Parishes

All sacramental records for the Archdiocese of Newark are kept at the parish where that particular sacrament was celebrated, assuming the parish is still in existence.

If you know the name of the parish and that it still exists or if you don’t know the name of the parish but have a general idea of the geographical area, please use our parish locator.

Merged Parishes

If the parish is not listed on the Parishes web page, it may be merged with another parish. To check for merged parishes, see the listing below.

Closed Parishes

If the parish is not listed on the Parishes web page, it may be closed. To check for closed parishes, see the listing below.

Parish Unknown

Please contact the Msgr. William Noé, Field Archives and Special Collections Center, by emailing archives@shu.edu or calling (973) 761-9476.

Please Note:

When a parish fulfills requests for sacramental records, staff spends time searching the records, typing it up with the notations of the other sacraments, and mailing it. Please consider sending a courtesy donation (unless the Parish has a specific fee) once you have received the certificate to help the parish recover its expenses.
