Archbishop Myers to Celebrate Ash Wednesday at St. Patrick Pro-Cathedral

Newark Archbishop John J. Myers will mark the start of Lent in the Archdiocese on Ash Wednesday, February 10, by celebrating Mass and distributing ashes at the 12:15 p.m. Mass at St. Patrick Pro-Cathedral in downtown Newark. Rev. Pedro Bismarck Chau, Administrator of St. Patrick Pro-Cathedral, will concelebrate.

St. Patrick Pro-Cathedral, located at the corner of Central Avenue and Washington Street in downtown Newark, is one of the oldest churches in New Jersey. The church served as the cathedral (mother church) of the Diocese of Newark from its founding in 1853 until the opening of Sacred Heart Cathedral (now Basilica) in 1954.

Attending the Mass will be hundreds of Catholics who work in the downtown Newark area.
