About the Archdiocese of Newark
The Archdiocese of Newark serves approximately 1.3 million Catholics across northern New Jersey, specifically in the counties of Bergen, Essex, Hudson, and Union. Led by Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin, C.Ss.R., the sixth Archbishop of Newark, the Archdiocese comprises 211 parishes, 67 Catholic schools, and numerous missions and ministries dedicated to faith, education, and social service. Established by Pope Pius IX in 1853, it is the ninth-largest diocese in the United States by Catholic population.
The Archdiocese shares in the mission of Jesus Christ, bearing witness to His presence through teaching, community building, and daily service to those in need.
